In the illustration process, there is flexibility to experiment. Sometimes we get through all the stages and still want a change. That would be difficult on physical art pages, but our comic is currently digitally drawn. That means it's still done by hand, just on a tablet made for more complex art functionality.

The artist and I agreed that one of our scenes didn't make the cut. Here it is below. It's part of a transformation scene, but we felt that there were too many medium/wide shots, and went for a close up instead. So in the final version, you'll see something that is still pretty cool, once we're ready to publish.

Here's what was targeted for deletion from the story, but still lives on in cyberspace.

I still really like that panel. Once art from Eye of The Keeper is committed to pencil or ink, I feel like it's a part of reality, at the very least, mine, and whomever connects with it. So it's special to me regardless of whether it's used or not.

For those of you that saw bits of Skullblade Keeper, his transformation was similar yet different. In this case, Skullspike Keeper's story takes place in the late 80s to 1990. So the aesthetic of wires binding to his skin is now cables, something the artist thought would look cool and also work well. I went with it, and realized how perfect this fits into the overall story. His biceps in the final art have exposed cables as well. It's not a fool proof armor. It's flawed, and it is suseptible to damage. It's this complex lacing of metal and energy. On film, I imagine it to look vivid and intricate.

Skullspike Keeper's story is a prequel to Skullblade Keeper's story. Both are the same character under the second skin, but from different times in their journey, which means different challenges and mindsets.

I once heard a creator say that we shouldn't delete anything we work on. Even my most absurd or mundane writings are filed away for future reference. It's a document I peruse before writing a new episode, to see if something from the past would fit, or can be reworked. I think that writers' are horders of ideas. We have so many. Too many. And yet not enough. That is the challenge. To sift through, modify, and reintegrate. Challenge accepted.
